Hi Zuri!
For the past 5 years, I’ve been rescuing animals from shelters or in the wild and slowly nursing them back to health. From baby birds and squirrels to cats and dogs, it’s become a labor of love and a spiritual calling. I’ve had Reiki done on myself with fantastic results. And I’d love to set up Reiki sessions for my animals to help them in their healing process. Do you recommend in person or distance energy work for them?– Fiona
Hey Fiona!
As a Reiki practitioner, I can wholeheartedly vouch for the amazing therapeutic benefits of Reiki for animals. Whether wild or domestic, injured or healthy, Reiki’s gentle, non-invasive energy is a perfect fit for almost any situation. And the best part? Distance Reiki works just as powerfully as an in-person session! Reiki isn’t limited by time or space, so the healing light will go exactly where it’s needed. Plus, it’s impossible for Reiki to do harm—only good vibes here!
Let’s chat about distance healing for a second. Since energy can be sent across any distance, it minimizes stress for injured animals, and eliminates any potential danger to the practitioner (because, as we know, animals in pain can sometimes act out). Now, if you’re going in person? There’s something magical about that, too. Animals in pain often have a beautiful, positive reaction to Reiki energy. I always recommend mentally asking for the animal’s permission before sending energy their way. They often communicate by turning their bodies so the painful area is toward you—or they may even place their hurt spots in your hands. It’s incredible to witness animals who’ve been suffering finally relax and even fall asleep as they absorb the healing energy.
Reiki is super helpful for emotional and behavioral challenges as well. For animals who’ve endured abuse, Reiki works wonders by helping them release trauma on an energetic level. At first, they may be a little hesitant, unsure of the process. But once they realize they have control over how much or how little energy they receive, they’ll open up and accept the healing.
Shelter animals are especially responsive to Reiki. I’ve seen it time and time again—whole rows of pets soaking up the energy, calm and content. It helps ease their emotional distress, which in turn makes them more adoptable.
For older pets, regular Reiki sessions can work wonders in maintaining their vitality and reducing discomfort from common issues like arthritis or digestive problems. It’s such a gift to see them moving more freely and happily.
And when the time comes to say goodbye to our beloved companions, Reiki can ease that transition. It brings peace, comfort, and calm, helping both the animal and the owner through such a challenging time.
Now, Reiki is not a miracle cure, but it’s an AMAZING complement to your regular vet care. Your pets will absolutely love it, and even if they’re healthy and happy, the energy will help them feel extra pampered and cared for. If they have health or emotional issues? Reiki will set them on a path toward peace and wellness.
No matter what method you choose—distance or in-person—trust what resonates with you. The universe will always show up when your heart is full of love and good intentions.
